What is a Geriatrician?

A geriatrician is a physician who specialize in the care of older adults.  Fellowship trained geriatricians have received formal education in the prevention and management of the unique and multiple health problems of older adults.

Since older persons tend to react to illness differently than youger persons, geriatricians understand the specific syndromes older patients experience, and the complexty of managing multiple diseases.  Geriatricians use their expertise to develop care plans that address the special health care needs of older adults.

Who is Dr. Colburn?

Dr. Colburn is one of a few fellowship trained Geriatricians in Palm Beach County.  She received her undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University and earned her medical degree from Michigan State University.  Rhode Island Hospital, affiliated with Brown University, was the site of Dr. Colburn's internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.  Dr. Colburn received two years of formal fellowship training in geriatric medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is certified in geriatrics.  Dr. Colburn has had a private practice in West Palm Beach, Florida since 1997.
