What is Geriatric Medicine?

"Geriatric" is formed from the two Greek roots meaning "old age" and "healing or physician." Geriatrics refers to the clinical aspects of aging and the comprehensive health care of older persons. It is an area of medicine that focuses on health promotion, disease prevention and the management of chronic conditions in older adults.
