Often needed when there has been something fly into the eye that gets stuck in the cornea or clear part in front of the eye. This can continue to cause pain, redness and excessive tearing. Your eye will be stained with a color paper after anesthesia makes the eye numb. Your eye will then be examined under a special fluorescent lighting to see if there is a scratch to the cornea. If so you will be placed on antibiotic that can help prevent the scratch from infection. If there is a foreign body it will be removed after this stain reveals it. The eye will be irrigated with saline and antibiotics given.
