Instructions for Nail Surgery
Nail Care Instructions
1. Keep the dressing on for 24 hours.
2. You may need to loosen the bandage if it feels too tight later on.
3. You can use Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain, if needed.
4. After showering start soaking the foot on which the procedure was performed twice a day in lukewarm water and Epsom salts. You can use 4-5 tablespoons of Epsom salts in a half a gallon of lukewarm water. Pleased add 5 squirts of Hibiclens in the warm water. Soak the foot for 10-15 min. Use a Q-tip to clean out the nail groove/grooves to prevent any accumulation of drainage. Continue the soaking protocol for the next 7-10 days.
5. Keep the toe/toes covered using a thin film of Bacitracin ointment and a Band-Aid. There may be some clear drainage for the next few days and should stop after that.
6. Watch for any signs of infection including redness, pus drainage, swelling, increase in pain of the toe that was operated on, and/or feeling sick. If you may develop any of those conditions, please call the office.
7. Call the office with any concerns.
