OUR PROVIDERS:
Dr. Joanne Crenshaw is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been in practice since July 1997. Born and raised in New York, she graduated from Cornell University summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in the Biological Sciences.  She then attended Cornell University Medical College where she graduated with a medical degree with Honors in Research. She subsequently completed an Internal Medicine Internship at Mount Sinai Hospital and an Ophthalmology Residency and Glaucoma Fellowship at the Cornell University Medical College.  During her ophthalmology residency, she served as Chief Resident and was recognized by The Glaucoma Foundation for her participation in glaucoma screenings throughout New York City.

After her Glaucoma fellowship, Dr. Crenshaw was the glaucoma specialist at The Eye Center in Warren, New Jersey.  She then moved with her family to Virginia and joined Fairfax Eye Associates in Vienna, VA.  In October 2003, Dr. Crenshaw established her private ophthalmology practice in Sterling, Virginia.

Dr. Crenshaw has received the Patients' Choice award. Patients’ Choice recognition reflects the difference a particular physician has made in the lives of their patients.  The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients.

Dr. Shaleen Belani is a board-certified, comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery and premium intraocular lens implants.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology, summa cum laude, from Cornell University, and attended S.U.N.Y. Buffalo School of Medicine where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Belani completed her ophthalmology training and served as chief resident at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, consistently recognized as one of the top eye hospitals in the nation.  She spent two years learning advanced cataract surgery techniques from the past President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.  She has co-authored multiple nationally-recognized publications and two book chapters in the field of cataract surgery.

Dr. Khalil was raised in Clark’s Summit, Pennsylvania. He attended SUNY Binghamton University where he majored in Integrative Neuroscience and developed an interest in the visual system. He initially pursued a career as an ophthalmic technician with Drs. Crenshaw and Belani and gained valuable clinical experience to help his future aspirations to become an eye doctor. He appreciated how eyecare tangibly improves patients’ lives. To Dr. Khalil, vision is the most important sense.

At the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Drexel University), Dr. Khalil not only excelled academically.  During the pandemic lock down, he unified faculty and students by creating a show for the school dubbed “Salus Spicy Ones.” He was recognized for cultivating a tighter knit environment and increasing student engagement. Dr. Khalil then graduated cum laude from Pennsylvania College of Optometry Class in 2024.

During his training, Dr. Khalil rotated through the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, PA, Precision Eye Group in Honesdale, PA and The Eye Institute of Philadelphia. He received honors at every rotation and gained valuable experience in ocular disease, contact lenses, pre- and postoperative Lasik/cataract management and dry eye management.

Dr. Khalil is eager to return back to where it all started, working with his mentors Drs. Crenshaw and Belani. Dr. Khalil will practice full-scope medical optometry including glaucoma management, diabetic eye exams, dry eye management, contact lenses/corneal management, and emergency eye care.

Dr. Khalil is fluent in Arabic and English. He is a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Khalil and his wife, who is also an optometrist, Dr. Diana Mamoud, love to travel and try different restaurants. In his free time, he likes to exercise and watch sports. Ask him about any sport!
