Adenoidectomy Discharge Instructions
The recovery period for an adenoidectomy is generally 1-3 days.
Please follow these instructions for a smooth, safe recovery:
Please encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids.
While any foods may be eaten, your child may prefer a soft diet may be for the first day or two.
Rest and quite play are recommened for the first 1-2 days after surgery.
Your child may return to school and resume normal activities 1-2 days after surgery if doing well.
After surgery, your child may experience one or more of the following:
Ear and/or throat pain
A slightly stiff neck
Bad breath
Nasal discharge
and/or low grade fever for up to one week.
These are all normal parts of the healing process. Please take the antibiotic as prescribed. Tylenol can be used for discomfort or fever. However, NO aspirin or aspirin-like products such as Motrin or Advil are to be taken during the first week after surgery unless approved by your doctor.
If any bleeding occurs, or if you feel that your child is not progressing well, please call the office day or night. Please call if your child has severe neck stiffness. If you are unable to reach your physician and feel your child requires immediate medical attention, go to a Hospital Emergency Room or Urgent Care.
