Wound Care Instructions
POST SURGICAL WOUND CARE
Use a mixture of 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 water to clean the wound.
Wet the Q-Tip and gently wipe the crust and clot off the wound. Always move the Q-tip along the wound not across.
Dry the wound gently with a gauze sponge or clean cloth
Apply antibiotic ointment (Bacitracin – available over the counter, or Bactroban - prescription) with a dry Q-Tip over the wound.
Please perform the cleaning 2 to 3 times per day.
Throughout the day keep reapplying Bacitracin or Bactroban ointment over the wound and do not allow it to become dry.
Perform this procedure for one to two weeks.
LONG TERM CARE
Two weeks after the surgery start applying Vitamin E and a moisturizer (there are mixtures available over the counter) on the wound twice a day.
Protect the wound from direct sunlight and use a sunblock for UVA and UVB protection rated SPF 30 or greater. IF THE WOUND BECOMES RED, WARM, OR PAINFUL, PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
